How can I evaluate QlikView?

You can download a copy of the full QlikView Enterprise product from the download link on the top left hand corner of the home page (and most other pages!).

With this you can use QlikView freely as much as you like on 15 different calendar dates - they need not be consecutive. When you download you will receive an email which tells you how to get to the tutorial which is a good way to get started. How do I view the QlikView Demonstration Applications?

There are 3 ways to view our pre built QlikView Demonstration Applications, these are entirely dependant on the deployment you are considering. These are ZFP client (Zero Foot Print), IE Plug-in client and the full QlikView Enterprise.

What does the Microsoft Internet Explorer Plug-in offer?

The IE Plug-in client, which runs in the Microsoft® Internet Explorer, also offers a web based environment, while delivering a far richer user experience than the ZFP client the IE Plug-in gives near pixel perfect reproduction of the QlikView application over the web. The plug-in also offers advanced features over and above the ZFP client such as scroll bars, graphical selection, drill downs and search functionality.

The QlikView Analyzer for Microsoft® Internet Explorer must be downloaded and locally installed in order to run.

The IE Plug-in solution will require MS Internet Explorer version 5.5 or later.

Click here to download the QlikView Analyzer for Microsoft®.

Once installed you may then go to

http://83.166.161.91/QlikView/Plugin/plugin_alldocs.asp and select the demonstration application required.

What is "in-memory" analysis?

QlikView loads all your data into the computers memory (the server's memory with QlikView Server and your PC's memory with QlikView Enterprise/Professional). It is because all this data is in memory (and because of the smart way that QlikView handles it!) that QlikView can respond to queries instantly.

Each time you click on a listbox or a chart you are making a query. This means you can "browse" your data and notice things you would probably never have asked for - which can often turn out to be very valuable.

What is QlikView Publisher?

QlikView Publisher is a program which allows you to maintain centralised control of all your QlikView files and to schedule when and how they are reloaded and distributed. You can automatically reload files and distribute them to "Web Access Points" or by E-Mail or on an intranet.

With QlikView publisher you can automate the production of (say) file for each salesperson containing only their sales targets and current performance and have it automatically made available to the sales person in the way they have asked (email, on an FTP site, on QlikView Server).

What is QlikView Server?

QlikView Server is a program that is installed on a physical server (computer) with number of "CAL - Client Access Licences". These allow users to access QlikView files stored on the server, over the internet. When a user loads these documents they are loaded into the browser and the processing for this is mostly done on the server. QlikView Server controls the people who can access the documents on the server using Client Access Licences or "CAL's".

When you buy QlikView server you also buy a number of CAL's. (The starter pack is 10). This entitles 10 named people to access the QlikView server, with standard CAL's there is no restriction on the number of files which can be held on the server, nor of the number of files a user can access.

The licence key is entered on the QlikView server centrally - there is no requirement to for the user to enter any licence information.

What is the difference between the QlikView programs?

These are the same program with varying levels of functionality enabled by virtue of the licence key entered. This program is installed on a users PC and allows the user to "Load" a document into memory on that PC. A licence key is required for each PC.

Conceptually QlikView Enterprise is for "Developers". QlikView Professional is for "Power Users" and QlikView Analyser is for "Data Users". They are all in fact one program it is just that the licence key you enter allows you to access different the functions with in the programs. When you download the evaluation you get QlikView Enterprise capability (for 15 different days of use).
